Why it matters
A broad wasp label is not a medical forecast
Some wasps can sting and social colonies may defend a nest, but family-level identity cannot predict an individual's reaction or justify treating every wasp as equally hazardous.
- A previous or visible sting reaction cannot predict the severity of a future reaction. Trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or rapidly worsening systemic symptoms require emergency medical help.
- Avoid handling wasps or disturbing an active nest for identification.
- Use a narrower group and actual nest context before making management decisions.
