Question

The bumps are mostly below the sock line and appeared on two evenings. Our dog has been scratching more than usual, but I have not seen a live flea. What should I inspect before treating the room?

Pest Or Not answer

The ankle location, carpet exposure, and increased pet scratching make fleas plausible, but bites alone cannot confirm them. Comb the dog over a white surface, check the pet bed and carpet edges for jumping insects or black flea dirt, and place any black specks on a damp white paper towel. Flea dirt releases a reddish-brown stain. Seek medical advice for a severe reaction or signs of infection, and ask a veterinarian about the pet's itching.
